Mike DiFelice cleared waivers today and will be returning to Durham. This is great news, as I still believe that he is probably the best back-up catcher in the organization. If something befalls Dioner Navarro or Shawn Riggans, he’ll be ready.
Mike Difelice has been signed to a minor league contract under the impression that he will be given a shot to win the backup catcher job in Spring Training. (The Heater)
He’s old and a pretty bad hitter, but he’s got a decent glove and is probably better for the role than Shawn Riggans. I’m not going to get too excited about this one, since guys like Difelice grow on trees. But hey, at least he’s an original Ray; we weren’t ready to sever ALL ties to the original regime just yet.
