Rays of Light

As I’m sure most of you have heard there’s a potential deal being talked about that could, among other things, send Manny Ramirez to the Marlins and Jason Bay to the Red Sox.

New poll in the sidebar (and below). Feel free to use this thread to discuss.

In the last poll, people overwhelmingly stated that the Rays could stand pat and be okay rather than NEEDING to make a deadline deal.

I know the Sox are tired of Manny’s whole act, but I’m shocked that they’d do the rest of the league a favor by trading him away. Save for Albert Pujols or A-Rod, there’s not a more dangerous right-handed bat in the game.

Oh, and by the way, I think that Bay in Boston and Manny in Florida is better for the Rays. The Rays have already proven that WITH Manny they can beat the Red Sox. Manny being away from the Sox only makes it that much better.

I agree that the Sox without Manny is much more enticing in a series than with him. Manny has always ripped us to shreds, along with the rest of the AL. If he goes to the NL, and Bay goes to Boston, I keep us as the clear favorites to win the division. I am actually rooting for Boston to make a deal, something I’ve never done before. I also don’t think Bay would be good in Boston because of the pressure. Nady isn’t exactly lighting it up in New York, so we’ll see how that works out. But Bay seems like he kind of guy who doesn’t want any pressure. If he were to come here, the pressure wouldn’t be as high, so his numbers might be okay. But boston without manny really gets me excited. When I first heard they wanted to see if they could get a deal done, I thought there was no way it wuld ever happen. But now it seems like it’s very close to being a reality. I probably won’t sleep tonight. This reminds me of the old trade deadline saying, “Sometimes the best deal that can happen for you is the one you don’t make.” That seems like it could be very clear for us in this situation.

So I must say, as I hear about rumors for trades float around with Rays trades and hearing the names tossed around, my opinion about NEEDING to make a move diminished rapidly. I still think a deal should be done but not at the expense of one of our key prospects.

As for Manny leaving Boston, that would help our pitching a lot now having to face a “beefed” up Yankee team. I would be glad to see him go.
