Rays of Light

(Box Score)

Let’s be honest – it was the Fourth of July and I was busy getting my drink on while this game was going down, so I didn’t actually get a chance to watch it. Here’s a few things I was able to extrapolate from the box score and the recaps I’ve read:

Complete Performance: As good as the Rays have been this year, it seems like it’s been very rare that we’ve had both the offense and the defense clicking at the same time. There was no shortage of offense or solid pitching on Friday, though, as the Rays poured it on to the tune of 11 runs while Edwin Jackson snaked his way through 8 innings of 4-hit ball. Not a bad little way to celebrate the Fourth, eh?

The best part is that pretty much everyone (save for Eric Hinske) got involved in some way. A true team effort.

Hammel Time: A great sign as Jason Hammel navigated a scoreless 9th inning. If the Rays can get him going, he could be an incredibly effective long-man out of the pen.

Send you to the Brignac: Not the prettiest debut of all – 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts – but he did walk and score a run. He also was a part of a pair of double-plays. Give the bat a few days and it should come around. I hope.

Evan Almighty: Three more hits. Seriously? Dude is mashing like nobody’s business right now. Forget Rookie of the Year. How about MVP? :)
