David Price isn’t going to be allowed to dominate hitters at Vero Beach any more this season, as he was promoted to Montgomery following last night’s game. (Source)
Though I don’t think there’s any way that it happens, this is certainly only going to fuel those “David Price will be in the bullpen by September!” rumors that have been floating around ever since he was drafted last year. Price was 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA in six starts with Vero Beach.

Great news! Now if we can just J-Hell on the train to Montgomery. If Hellickson does get promoted soon, a Montgomery rotation of David Price, Wade Davis, Jacob McGee, James Houser, and Jeremy Hellickson would have to be amongst the most talented minor league rotations ever
It is probably more likely that Hellickson gets the promotion after Price or Davis leave, but it would be an awesome rotation to track for however briefly they were together.

I think you will see Price in Montgomery for a while. If Durham is playoff bound, I think Price ends up there to get more innings. If they aren’t headed for the playoffs, maybe he gets called up to Tampa to join the rotation or bullpen to just get acclimated with the majors. Although, a couple years ago, the Cardinals brought up Adam Wainwright and let him be part of the bullpen to get acclimated. He ended up helping them win the World Series, and then became a top-of-the-rotation starter the very next season for them. I’m not saying we’ll do that with Price, but it could happen. As I said though, if Durham is playoff-bound, he will stay there at the end of the year and be with the big boys next year.

Sorry, but if the Rays are making a push in September I think Price will be brought up as the 7th-8th inning set-up a-lah Joba style.
Yes, Wheeler is doing fantastic but for that push Price could be the final piece…

I agree. But I think the Rays could make a move for somebody for the 7th-8th role by the deadline.

Okay, so it’s been a couple of weeks since I put my trade ideas out there. Everyone knows about the Griffey rumors, and such, but I’m not really sure about it. It’d be nice to see him in a Rays uniform, but I’m not sure he’d really be much of an upgrade. To be honest with you, I think this team needs to go after another pitcher to make a great run. There are only 2 starting pitchers that I feel worthy of putting us over the top for this year-Sabathia and Hudson. Sabathia is the sexy choice because of his stature, but his postseason success is not very good. It could be worth it to call about him, but the world’s not going to end if we don’t. He’d be expensive, not just to try to sign, but also in terms of prospects. Granted, we would get 2 sandwich picks next year for not re-signing him, but not really worth it in my opinion. Projected offer- Andy Sonnanstine, Justin Ruggiano, and a low-level prospect. That leads me to Hudson. He’s signed for ’09 for $13 million, which is high, but not extraordinary. To bring in Hudson for this year and next would cost us a very high prospect, and then some. I think it could be worth it for him though. He would truly give us the bst rotation in the majors, and would provide some successful postseason experience. Not to mention what the rotation would look like next year-Kaz, Hudson, Shields, Price, Garza. Projected offer- Jackson, McGee, Rhyne Hughes, and a low-level pitching prospect.
What are you guys’ thoughts?
