Rays of Light

One thing I speculated on yesterday - truly through my own conjecture through things that I’ve read and not from any first-hand source - is that the Rays felt compelled to make this trade because of concerns about Young’s attitude. To set an example, and to try to rid the clubhouse of a bad influence, the team went into this offseason actively shopping Young - without feeling too desperate, mind you - looking for the best possible deal it could find. With that in mind, I find it difficult to believe that we could’ve done any better than what we got from the Twins.

That said, if we really made this deal in part because of concerns about Delmon and his attitude, does that mean that a trade involving Elijah Dukes might not be far behind? Does this team searching for a new identity really want the bad publicity it could get from having Elijah Dukes around? What do you guys think?

I still say the kid is a ticking timebomb, and could ruin all of the graces this new organization is trying to make. He almost has to be moved now… Now, if he stays and can be a true citizen and rake in Rf, idk

I would love for Dukes to prove me wrong, but I am very pessimistic. I think he could be a star, but doubt it will happen and expect he will be moved probably for ten cents on the dollar.

Out of curiousity, does anyone wish we had kept Chris Snelling as an option to play right field and be a left-handed hitter off the bench?

    Yes.

A man of few words. I like it bob.

no- Snelling will be treading water in the whirlpool all season…

Snelling is only a left-handed hitting version of Rocco, except that Rocco has proven that he can perform when healthy on the major league level. I think Ruggiano may get a real chance to see some time in RF in ST. If he can show some good life like he did in the World Cup, he may be able to really make this team. There is the option he could start the year in Durham, but Young being gone may have been his door opening. But I still think they are wanting Rocco to move to RF to see if he can stay healthy out there.

I think DUkes can succeed. I said it on DRB and I will ay it here, I think what we saw was just a messy divorce. The man has no father figure in his life, he has alot of money and made alot of mistakes. I think he see’s that now when baseball was more or less taken away from him. He knows this is his only shot at making something for himself.

I think he will get his act together and play well for us this year.
