Jorge Cantu expected to be demoted? - B.J. Upton is set to be back soon and will probably be getting his time in at second base. That means possible doom for our buddy, Cantu. We really need to try and deal this guy, because I can hear the whining already and it hasn’t even happened yet.
No Interest in Roberto Hernandez? - He was released on Thursday by Cleveland, and I can’t say that I blame the Rays for not being interested. We’re not going anywhere this year, so what’s the point in bringing him here?
Scott Kazmir needs his home - He hasn’t won at the Trop since last season in July and it’s about time that changes. I wonder if it’s become a mental thing at this point.

Joe… Upton NEEDS to play center right now. Gomes, as much as I love him, is a mess in right field. We need to shift Delmonster back to right and let Gomer D.H., and maybe play first against lefties.

Scott- I agree. Put Upton in CF (like his brother), and Wiggy at 2B until Evan comes up. Pena and Norton can work 1B. I would send JoeM to the minors (can you put a manager on the waiver wire?), demote Foley to high A ball, trade some prospects for a class act reliever with at least 2+ years left on a contract, and give CC an entire week off to get his head together. then, when CC got back, I would sew a giant "C" on his jersey for team captain and explain if he wants to win, then to start leading the team both in the locker room and on the field. No more witness to the losing while keeping the stats up; also invite him to all the manager/coach meetings to be involved in the player discussions–either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Give up Jaso, two quality pitching prospects, Navarro, Baldelli and Wiggington for Saltalamancchia, Texiera, and a quality reliever.
Dump JoeM and Foley.
Give Andrew a deadline of 2008 season for a winning record…or else.

Not watching any Rays games till they come home from this road trip. These last 4 games has taken it all out of me. Just can’t figure out why they haven’t fired Maddon. This ownership is doing the same as Namoli lower the payroll and take the money. They brightened the wrapper of the team but the ingrediens are the same. At least Namoli did not try to gloss over his taking the money. Guys putting a C on someones uniform does not make him a captain and will not. Crawford is not a leader and never will be. I don’t think this team has any one that could be a leader. The Rays don’t even have a manager that can lead. I am just so fed up this team. I am the stupid one I keep buying season tickes. I going to have a big S on my sleeve for stupid. I just hope the Indians enjoy their seafood buffet this weekend. Do you think wino Joe will give them a little California Chardoney to go with it?

Indians are out of luck….if they get some meat then Merlot Joe is standing by with a case.

Only dynamic leadership and some dynamic management decisions will save this hapless team from another five years of loosing.
Only when the ticket sales get to sub-8000 a game will management wake up.

Bill & Scott, the Rays should not put Upton in Center just yet because of his quad injury. Once he gets fully healthy, I think he can be a Ken Griffey type player in the outfield.

There are those who will scorn me for this, but I have come to realize that Gomes is NOT a piece we need long-term for this team. I myself have been a Gomes fan because of his grit and occasional homerun. However, we are seeing his inability to field, lack of smart baserunning, and lack of consistency. This is not championship level play for what we are striving to become. The Rays management has too much patience, not realizing the human element…continuing to foster the loser mentality that continues to grow like a cancer between the ears of the Rays’ players and coaching staff. Why continue to look small and not seek out more outstanding quality players one way or another?

T.D. -
I see your point, but the second you start holding guys back, they become Rocco Baldelli.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
If the team is going to bag it this week, why not keep Upton out and play Mohr? Let’s let Wilson have an inning or two also, to keep him sharp and the bullpen rested for September.
I was serious about Andrew having a deadline; if this is a business for them, then tie his bonus to the win-loss column of the Rays and you will see some action.

If Rocco’s hammies would ever heal I would put him at 1B/DH immediately (1B only with lefties and DH with RHP when Pena slugs away), and put Upton in CF. I would also find the best rehab/flexibility trainer in the business - spare no expense - and hire him/her for the team.
