FAQ

Below is a list of frequently asked questions for reference. More will be added to this list as need arises.

Q: How do I get an icon to show up for my comments like all the other cool people that comment?

A: To have an icon visible next to your comment on the site, and a host of other sites that use the same service, simply go to www.gravatar.com and register for a free account with the e-mail address you use to comment on this blog or other blogs. Once you’re registered, upload an icon you want to have associated with that e-mail address and you’re all set. When you comment on a blog that uses gravatar for their icons, the blog recognizes the e-mail address and attaches your icon. It’s that simple.

Q: Are we really not allowed to curse on this site? What the ?%!?

A: One of the things I’ve maintained about the writing on the site is that it would be safe for most audiences to read. Because of that, I do not curse in my posts and do not allow the other writers to do so. That said, what happens in the comment section of the post is a different story. I’ve gone through a transformation of thinking on this issue and here’s why. While it’s easy for me to stick to my moral code and general way of speaking and writing, that’s not other people’s choice. If you try not to go the Andrew Dice Clay route, I’ll do my best to allow as much freedom in the comments as possible.

Q: Are you looking for writers / contributors to the site?

A: This answer depends on the time the question is asked. While we’re generally not looking to add new writers, we always welcome guest pieces that are thoughtfully written. If you’re interested in submitting a piece, please don’t hesitate to ask. In addition, it never hurts to contact us if you’re interested in a more frequent writing spot. If the fit is right, we’ve always got room for another voice.

Q: How do I use the quotes in my comment (formerly the grey box)?

A: I can’t tell you how many times we get asked this question. Our comment section is basic HTML code friendly, which means things like bold, italics, underline, quoting, lists, etc are allowed. Here is an example of how to use the blockquote in your comments

Q: Why do you have ads on the site?

A: While it’s not terribly expensive to run a blog, believe it or not, I do have a decent amount of expenses. Just to give you an idea of what they are, here are just a few:

  • Web Hosting
  • Domain Registration
  • Web / Print Media Subscriptions
  • Print Resources
  • Prizes & Shipping for said prizes

I try not to overwhelm you with banner ads that are crazy and flashing in the middle of a post and will always continue to do so.

Q: Who do I contact about purchasing ad space on the site and what are your rates?

A: We are always interested in working with new clients in customizing a package that meets your budget and marketing needs. For a better description of what type ads we offer, please visit our Media Page which includes a link to download our media kit in PDF format.
