Written by , Posted in General

From the Media Relations Department:

MESA – The Chicago Cubs today assigned nine players to minor league camp and released right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto, reducing their spring roster from 60 to 50 players.

Right-handed pitchers Aaron Brooks and Jose Rosario, and left-handed pitcher Jack Leathersich have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.  Right-handed pitcher Duane Underwood Jr. has been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Five non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: Right-handed pitchers Seth Frankoff, Casey Kelly, Jhondaniel Medina and Conor Mullee; and left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup.

Chicago’s spring roster of 50 players consists of 24 pitchers (four non-roster invitees), six catchers (two non-roster invitees), 12 infielders (five non-roster invitees) and eight outfielders (three non-roster invitees).

All pitchers. Half surprised to see Rosscup in this early group.

  • Jerry in Wisconsin

Is Schwarber one of the 6 catchers? If not the Cubs only have 6 more cuts to the 40 Man roster.

  • I’ve been so busy trying not to forget about Corey Black that I completely forgot about Jhondaniel.

  • Seymour Butts

Hey CAPS, how many inches did you get last night?

    • JTBarrett16

      Still coming down.

    • I see what you did there.

      • Seymour Butts

        I knew you would.

      • But Caps didn’t.

      • Seymour Butts

I was pretty sure of that too.

      • Eddie Von White

Why is it we all think like Jr. Highers except CAPS?

2 observations while watching Puerto Rico vs La Republica Dominicana:
    1. Our old friend Angel Pagan is still looking for work. We should have signed him instead of Jhon Jhay.
    2. Baez is officially back to 2014 Javy. Wild swings at everything. The broadcasters even noted how he tapered off in the World Series after winning MVP of the NLCS.
