Episode 14 – The Buster Olney Interview Episode

Written by , Posted in General

Joe Aiello is flying solo this episode of VFTB radio and discusses the week that was in Cubs baseball, including a win streak and a sweep of the Cardinals that should have happened were it not for poor bullpen management by Rick Renteria. We also take a look at the early season results of Joe’s OOTP Cubs season and cap it all off with a conversation with ESPN.com columnist, Buster Olney on the state of the Cubs.

    Another frustrating Game, Another Almost.

    • PLCB3

Almost doesn’t cut it. The trash now lead the all-time series 50-45. They’ll have the lead for another year. I bet next year we’ll play them 8 times since everyone is playing the division with their permanent Interleague rival.

      • Doug S.

        Who is Arizona’s interleague rival?

      • PLCB3

        Houston or Tex-ass.

      • Doug S.

A stretch, but both AL so buyable. What about when the Astros were NL. Was AZ rival-less?

      • PLCB3

What do you mean a stretch? They’re designated 2 rivals, along with Colorado, and they alternate years who they play. Because right now interleague is 20 games. You play 16 games vs. one division (4 3-game sets, and 2 2-game sets), plus 2 2-game sets with a rival team. In our case, the trash. Every team’s rival is in the corresponding division (AL East vs. NL East, etc.), and next year, they play each other.

      • Eddie Von White

Rivals cannot be manufactured. The hate must come about naturally.

      • PLCB3

Well then take it up with Bud Selig. We have a natural rival since another team plays in our city.

      • Eddie Von White

Maybe we could have a Bud summit.

      • PLCB3

You and Bud can discuss the issue over Buds. I don’t want to join your summit.

      • Eddie Von White

It is not a summit unless you are there, CAPS.

      • PLCB3

        1. I don’t drink
        2. I don’t care
        3. Who would you propose as Arizona’s permanent rival?

      • Eddie Von White

San Diego. I know from personal experience while stalled in an intersection, that San Diegans’ despise Arizona people. They’d be perfect rivals for each other.

      • PLCB3

Permanent INTERLEAGUE rival. They’re in the same division

      • Eddie Von White

        Oops. My bad.

      Maybe not clearly.

I don’t believe it is decisive enough to overturn the ruling on the field. That is what the burden of proof is.

      • PLCB3

The video quality is a little poor IMO. MLB should invest in better quality video cameras.

I just want to tell you guys that i love the VFTB Radio podcasts. Great job guys.

  • PLCB3

Short podcast does not mean I get off the treadmill quicker. It means I listen to other stuff when it’s over.

I’m with you on the 8-man bullpen and the mis-management of it by Renteria. What ticks me off even more is that no one in the media is questioning him about it.

  • Surprised to hear Shark got shellacked in his first pretend outing.

    • PLCB3

Even the great ones have been lit up from time to time. I fully expect that there will be a real-life game this year where Shark gets pulverized. And ironically, the Cubs bats will come to life in that game as well and Shark will get the win.

Ricketts needs to ramp up his threats to move to Rosemont. It might be an empty threat, but he should make it serious. He should amp things up. Draw up blueprints, etc. He has to scare the shit out of the rooftops. 83% of 0 is zero. He should also tell the rooftops no matter what happens, they’re out after 2023. They’re not getting anything. It’s quite obvious that he wants them out and he wants the rooftop buildings so that he can get that money, but unfortunately, the rooftops won’t sell.

16 years ago today, I became a Cubs fan. Thanks Woody.

    • Tommy

      Yeah, thanks Woody.

      • PLCB3

        YOU AGAIN!?

    • Joe Aiello

It’s times like this I wish I had a DeLorean

      • PLCB3

Why? So that I never become a Cubs fan (or a baseball fan for that matter) and never find this blog? I probably would have gotten into baseball that year anyways because of the HR chase. That kept me watching baseball after his 20K game.

      • Joe Aiello

Just givin you a hard time
