Cardinals 5, Cubs 6 – Game Notes

Written by , Posted in General

MVP – Welington Castillo (.220 WPA)

  • Ryan Sweeney, was was injured in the game, is scheduled to have an MRI to take a look at what the damage is. That puts the Cubs yet another man short on the bench due to the injury and the asinine eight man bullpen. Words can’t describe how moronic I think that is. Carrie Muskat wrote in her blog that when Jake Arrieta is recalled from the DL today to make his start, the Cubs are expected to keep 13 pitchers as part of the staff. Chris Coghlan is scheduled to come up from AAA to replace Sweeney.
  • Adam Wainwright saw his 25 inning scoreless streak broken in the first when the Cubs jumped out to an early lead.
  • Starlin Castro committed his 4th error of the season. For those playing along at home in the question of if Castro’s home run total would be more or less than his error total, the score is now tied at four.
  • Anthony Rizzo has been hitting really well this week. It’s very encouraging to see both him and Castro rebound this year.
  • I missed this note the other day, but C.J. Edwards has been placed on the DL with AA Tennessee with some fatigue and inflammation in his pitching arm. I’m not worried about this one, but I am still not convinced that Edwards will be able to last as a starting pitcher.

What’s On Tap

  • PLCB3

The best Cubs wins are the ones vs the Cardinals.

    • Eddie Von White

      And the trash.

      • PLCB3

But we only play them 4 times. We play the Cardinals 19.

Rizzo is getting hot and the Cubs are climbing back into contention, only 7 under .500 now. A good May and we are back in it.

    • PLCB3

If we can sweep this series and then sweep the trash into the garbage where they belong, we’ll be 1 under .500! Small victories.

CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! Now let’s get greedy and go for the sweep tomorrow. Then sweep the trash into the garbage where they belong and tie up the all-time series.

we only take em one game at a time

Tomorrow is the last game of the Cardinals series, Dork. As for the trash, you will come to realize that I absolutely hate them, their organization, and their so-called fans who in reality are just Cubs haters who need a team to root for. You can not hold an intelligent baseball discussion with a White Sox “fan”. Everyone else here knows the only thing they are capable of saying. White Sox fans are the dumbest fans in the majors.

Also, Tuesday is the 16th anniversary of me being a Cubs fan. May 6, 1998 always holds a special place in my heart. That game is what made me a Cubs fan.

I was only throwing out a stupid sports cliche’… but I will bite, what happened on May 6th, 1998 … should I know?

I was 1 month and 20 days from my 10th birthday that day. I was in 4th grade. It was a Wednesday, and I was home sick from school. Bored out of my mind, I watched baseball for the first time ever that day, and this is what happened:

My bigger question is why Coghlan? Is it his OBP? Here is his slash line at Iowa 243/379/314 in 70 AB. The only number that stands out in there is OBP. He also has 6 stolen bases.
