So remember awhile back Joe posted “Two Truths and a Lie” and then never told us which was the lie? Here are mine. Two Truths and a Lie. I will give the answer tomorrow or Monday. And I’ll really give it (hint hint, Joe!)

Lizzie’s Two Truths and a Lie

1. For the first 16 years of my life I was stalked by a woman who claimed she gave birth to me and left me in a basket on someone’s porch.

2. If it weren’t for an ill-timed injury, I may have qualified for the 1984 Olympics.

3. My mother nearly lost an eye to a cornea-eating amoeba.

2. I was on ESPN in 2004.

Number 3 is true, no one knows about acanthamoeba keratitis unless they really dealt with it. I will guess number 1 is the lie since Lizzie seems to know something about athletics.

My guess is #2 for Lizzie.1. I pitched in college after not pitching since little league in 4th grade.
2. I was the first caucasian to attend a minority camp.
3. Dan Marino pushed me out of the way once.

1 I have a regional junior olympic championship medal I earned.
2 I went to Medical School intending to be a Gynecologist.
3 I have climbed to the top of Devil’s Tower ( Big mountain in movie Close Encounters)

You’re spot on about the acanthamoeba, Doc, that’s exactly what it was. Five donor corneas failed for one reason or another before a synthetic one three years ago finally held and she can actually see out of that eye after 10+ years of blindness. She’s so grateful!

#2 is my lie. After realizing I’d never be a gymnast since I couldn’t master the cartwheel I decided I’d be a world class tennis pro. I was exceptionally good at hitting that ball off the brick wall in our back yard. It was only when human opponents were involved that I realized I sucked. Thanks everyone for playing along, and props to Chuck and Verncrowe5 for seeing through my Olympic ruse!!!

#2 is the lie for me. I was never cut from the basketball team in high school. I tried out for the team as a freshman and made the ‘B’ squad. Realizing I was going to be confined to scrub status, and likely cut sophomore year, I quit after 2 weeks and decided to swim, since that was a no-cut sport.

I did take part in science olympiad in 7th and 8th grade. It was a good experience. I even won a couple of medals in some events. Both years there, I did metric estimation and bridge building. The teacher started out slowly, but now he’s built it into a very successful program. When I was in 8th grade, we almost qualified for the state competition, and then they made it the next year. The year after, my brother decided to do it as well in 6th grade (he’s 4 years younger than me and we moved to another school district after that year), and he got to go to state with the team.

Believe it or not, a lifeguard actually did save me when I was 9. I still hadn’t fully developed my swimming skills, and I was still a weak swimmer. I was swimming one day and went too far off into the deep end. I was able to stay above water, but I was struggling. Every time I save a kid now, I pay forward to that lifeguard who saved me. So despite being a lifeguard, I didn’t start swimming until HS, and I never thought about becomming a lifeguard until my supervisor at Domino’s (who also works at the local park district), suggested it to me since I was on the swim team in HS.

I only swam freestyle and backstroke. I couldn’t swim butterfly, and my breaststroke was so terrible that I had to do butterfly kick with it.

It’s not too much different from how it sounds … a woman with a troubled mental health history started calling my parents after I appeared on TV in a short little program about our local library, claiming I was hers. It started when I was about five and continued until I was about 15. I wasn’t told about it until I was 16. My parents protected me from afar, following me everywhere even when I didn’t know it so they wouldn’t creep me out. She often contacted my various schools and our church to try to get the teachers or priests to listen to her. Of course everyone was pre-warned as were the police so pretty much everyone was keeping an eye on me.
