The Cubs won 9 or their last 13 games to close out the first half of the season. Can they keep those winning ways alive, or will they shrink back into consistent losers? Will Saturday be Ryan Dempster’s last start as a Cub? Will Sunday be Matt Garza’s? And what will it take to kickstart the Cubs’ activity in the trade market? I have no clue, but here’s what you can look forward to this weekend.

Friday at 1:20pm CT – Ian Kennedy vs. Paul Maholm
Maholm won his final two starts of the first half, giving up one run on 12 hits over 14 1/3 innings. The left-hander has definitely thrived at Wrigley, posting a 4-2 record and 3.26 ERA at home.
Saturday at 12:05pm CT – Joe Saunders vs. Ryan Dempster
Dempster came off the DL and extended his scoreless inning streak to 27 innings against the Mets. His start Sunday was his first off the DL, and he cruised through five innings. He’s also won four straight starts.
Sunday at 1:20pm CT – Trevor Cahill vs. Matt Garza
After opening the season strong, Garza has stumbled, and his season has been a roller-coaster ride. In his last start before the break, he lasted four innings vs. the Braves, giving up three homers. On the plus side, he’s 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA at home.
