How (and when) did you find VFTB?
If memory serves, it was from a link on ESPN.com.
Back in 2005 I believe I decided to start writing my own Cubs blog and called it Cubtracker over at blogspot. There was a consortium at the time of others doing the same thing and we started reading each other’s blogs. One of those in the CBA (Cubs Bkig Army) was VFTB. A couple months into the season I got an e-mail from Joe inviting me to write for VFTB. I was so honored and was a regular contributor through 2007 I believe. Joe gave me a platform and my own avatar which I use to this day as you can see. So, in a way, VFTB found me rather than the other way around.
I was looking for a decent cubs game review and found VFTB through a link on the espn website.
I had an infatuation with men with 6 fingers on one hand.
I know a guy. His name was Sherman. He was funny, wrote stuff about the Cubs in this place called cyber space. Joe caught wind of him and brought Sherman and his posse onto the View, the rest is Lizzie history.
And now Sherman is lost in cyber space with Will Robinson
I was looking for an esteemed group of insightful Cubs fans. I found VFTB, and said to myself “close enough.”
I was looking for Cubs blogs and forums on google, and I found this in the summer of 2009. I decided to join because the people here weren’t idiots like they are on some other sites.
I think I originally found VFTB through ESPN. Bookmarked it and read periodically during the 2010 season, but didn’t really join the fam until Joe advertised he was looking for new writers early on last season.
Sherm and I started commenting back in ’08 I believe. When Sherm’s blog committed suicide shortly thereafter in ’09, I just stuck around. A less pompous commenting crowd than the former Goatriders of the Apocalypse, and less censorship than the ‘agree with me or be banned” Bleed Cubbie Blue. For the record, both bloggers are on my top 10 douchiest blogger list, scheduled to come out Memorial Day weekend. If only I had the time to start my own blog.
The Sherm blog lives on, though nothing new has been posted since October 2009. Some great banter and Lizzie-worthy comments, if you have the time to sift through.
Speaking of ’09….I have been patiently waiting for the ‘King of the Castle’ feature to return for 2 and a half years now. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a great reign and all, what with all the adoration and benefits, but if, as Lizzie states above, more of us and less of you is what you see, why not a return to the kingdom, as it were.
I think July of 2010 was my first visit to VFTB.
Sorry Liz for using this forum but there is breaking news that could jeopardize many Cubs fans enjoyment this season, including in the Chicago area. I am so glad I have DISH Network and not Direct TV http://www.wgntv.com/about/station/pressrelease/wgntv-tribune-television-wgn-americanolonger-available-via-directv-covering-19tv-markets-wgn-america-will-expire-tonight-20120331,0,1676181.htmlstory
I have no idea when or how. Where am I?
So even the Chicago WGN is going to be lost? Because during the days when my parents didn’t have cable, I still got to see the Cubs and Bulls oin WGN
perhaps I misunderstood but the statement does say those in the Chicago area will still miss Opening Day. Unfathomable.
That can’t be. Because at home on our cable package (I think DISH, but idk) we get Chicago WGN (Channel 9), and we also get national WGN.
perhaps the distinction lies in the difference between WGN and WGN America? I hope I’m wrong.
As far as I know, the only difference is certain WGN Bulls games don’t get aired on the national WGN. All the WGN Cubs games get aired on national WGN.
Nice to see more posters here now than there were in those days.
Great job on the site folks!!!!
I would hope that if you have the MLB package you can get any Cubs game via that package, excluding the Saturday Fox blackout that is a whole ‘nother frustrating subject. You may only get the opposing teams broadcast feed but that is a plus in my book, I usually choose the opposing teams feed anyways. And there is always the MLB internet package that I stream through my TV via apple TV.
I think Sherman is lost with John Hill (former Brit writer for TCR) and/or in the protective witness program.
A link from The Cub Reporter I think back in 06? 07?
Link on ESPN based on an article I was reading about big Z last year.
