if you think Sheff wouldn’t have been over 300 HR, which was my cutoff, without PEDs you’re crazy. He was a feared hitter with crazy quickness.

I have a hard time beating up on players from the 90s using stuff when players from the 60s on were on anphedimines and other drugs. Teams looked the other way. MLB did not care. Nobody cared until Bonds made a run at Aaron. I’m not sure if anybody would have cared then if Bonds wasn’t such a jerk publicly. To me it was just a part of the training regimin of professional athletes at the time. I am sure there was a lot of don’t ask, don’t tell going on.

I believe I read in Game of Shadows that special agent Jeff Nowitzki of some government agency decided to pursue a case against Bonds because he is an asshole. And technically, Bonds has admitted to taking steroids. The whole case against him is proving that he knew he was doping.

On a related note, the legs carried me to a win in wind sprints against my 5 slowest high school players today. Oddly, none were named Decarlo. The new team rule is that no starter is allowed to be slower than the chubby 41 year old coach. I’ll be paying for it tomorrow, but it helped the kids overcome the monotony of week 2 of practice.
