I got a chance to see Colvin a lot when the Cubs were in San Francisco and I was very unimpressed. He seemed to be totally clueless with two strikes, whatever he was guessing he didn't get and looked bad. Given what I saw he's a "trade for value" prospect, I saw more to like in Bobby Scales (who?) and Ty Wright could pan out like Micah Hoffpaiur as a minor league player. Micah didn't really show power until his last couple of years at Iowa.

Soriano will be back next year and I look for him to rebound somewhat. That has to start with a smaller bat as his bat speed has really suffered and he does swing a tree. I don't see the Cubs making any major moves in the outfield unless they send Bradley to Anaheim for Sarge Jr. in an exchange of bad contracts. Perhaps Bradley for Rowand might be do-able as well.

While this looks really bad, remember some context. You don't draft someone projecting them for left field. Lots of left fielders start in center or right and play their way to left. Others start at third or first but get shifted to left because left field is the place you stick your worst fielder. See Dunn, Adam, et al.

That being said, there hasn't been enough offensive talent in this series from the other spots to warrant an optimistic outlook for LF. So, in long form, I agree with Joe's assessment.

For Wright to be worth anything, he's got to be able to play some in CF. If he can't, he's not worth a 40-man spot.

I'm guessing Colvin's coming up in RF since we haven't seen him yet?

Soriano- 2014 at $18M, they should pay him in pennies and have an Albatross deliver them.

How many bad contracts are in baseball right now? I wonder how many of the bad contracts are due to juice inflated numbers.

Manny 1 year $25 left on his deal. Gary Matthews Jr, 2 years $24M left on his deal for a defensive OF with a .250 avg and the power of Ryan TheRiot.
