I was disappointed at Fox's end numbers, too. I was overvaluing him. That's the importance of looking at numbers; I remember going through the year and thinking that every time they put Fox in the game he does something good. I had an impression that he was an above-average offensive player. Obviously that's not true, and I can re-evaluate my opinion of him.
This value breakdown is fascinating -- thanks for sharing!

Plus, in the NFL only the signing bonus is gauranteed. In baseball, everything is gauranteed.

I will have more later today, but the signing bonus has no meaning in baseball. The only thing it matters for is taxes. Because there is no salary cap in baseball, the signing bonus is completely symbolic. Steinbrenner doesn't need signing bonuses to circumvent the salary cap like Jerry Jones did when he gave Deion Sanders the minimum salary plus 1 penny and a $12,999,999.99 signing bonus. Long story short, whatever portion of a signing bonus that is paid to a player, plus his base pay for that year, I consider his salary for the year
