Funny Seymour, clever. That's funnier than watching Pepitone hit on toothless crack whores and get shut down.

I asked Joe at camp a couple of years ago,"Hey, Joe, can you sign for me?' he said sure and then I handed him my cup.
Jody and Czonk were laughing their heads off watching, and Joe pretended to be offended and then did actually sign it. I think it says "You are a Fucking Asshole, Joe Pepitone" It's in my trophy case.

Nice story Joe. I won't hold it against you. Pepitone still has that long pretty hair although he can take it off any time he wants. He could hit back in the day. Being Italian, I am not fond of big mouth Italians who threaten to break your legs every time they open their mouths. I know he is kidding but it isn't funny after the first 50 times.

More power to you screen name JoePepitone.

Joe I was like you as a kid, I got into baseball because of the home run chase in 1998, and I became a Cubs fan because they made the playoffs that year, and after they got off to a hot start in 1999, I felt the same way. Sosa was my favorite player for a while, but then during the 2003 season Wood, Prior, and Zambrano became my favorite players

Doc --

Please don't hold my screen name against me. It is a tribute to the birth of my rabid Cub fandom as a kid, not to the ballplayer himself. I first started following the Cubs on a daily basis during summer vacation in 1971 (after sporadically watching the year before). I was 11 years old and Pepitone had a torrid June -- batted .371/.412/.657 with 7 HR and 22 RBI (and an OPS of 1.069) and was playing a flashy 1st base. He hit a three-run HR in the bottom of the eighth of the first Cubs game I ever attended to beat Hank Aaron's Braves 3-2 (June 14, 1971). I thought he was soooooo cool.

He soon proved to be both a flake and a dickhead, as I soon discovered less than a year later -- 'retiring' only 8 games into the season, then 'unretiring' a few weeks later and overall playing like he didn't give a crap. Out of baseball less than a year after that.

My screen name celebrates my youth, my early blind belief in and enthusiasm for both a player (Pepitone) and a team (the Cubs) that seemed truly awesome. I knew nothing of heartbreak or failure. Back then, I was ignorant of the fallibility of professional athletes, nor was I aware of the long term organizational ineptitude of the Cubs and I certainly did not know how far into the future their futility would stretch. Back then, I only believed and the future seemed bright and promising.

BTW, I soon wised up and my favorite player became Billy Williams. Now there was a ballplayer worth cheering for.

Who is Joe Pepitone?

Joe Pepitone played in the 70's for the Yanks and the Cubs. One of his claims to fame is he was the first baseball player to bring a hair dryer into the clubhouse. He now has a fanny larger that the double green door next to the 368 sign in left center. The bullseye we drew on the fanny of his baseball pants was sweet revenge and very large.

He is one of the ex players at Cubs camp. He is unlikeable, he runs his mouth with bad Italian jokes, drinks to much and get's into fights with 60 year old men half his size. He's a jagoff to say the least.

I spent a few days in Columbus, Ohio, once, and I had a wonderful time. But then, I spent a few days in Ann Arbor, Michigan, once, and that was OK, too.
