About Last Night

I spent the day at the beach yesterday and had a lot of trouble staying awake during the game last night. Between sunburn, injured Zambrano, and Carlos Marmol’s need to give all who watch a heart attack, I decided to call it a night a little early and finish the game up in the morning. That being said, thank God for a win in a place that seems to be the Metrodome of the NL for us. Let’s close it out tonight and get out of there with a series win. Instead of a big drawn out recap, I present you with a few tidbits I found:

According to Dave Van Dyke “Injured catcher Geovany Soto will be sent on a rehab assignment this weekend and could return to the Cubs by Aug. 7 in Colorado. Soto has been doing strength work at the Cubs’ facilities in Arizona since straining an oblique muscle. He has been out since July 7.” (Source)

According to Skipper Lou, Tom Gorzelanny is slated to make three starts and then be evaluated, since that is about the time Ted Lilly is scheduled to return from the DL. I’m not holding out much hope that he’ll be a meaningful member / contributor to the rotation. Ultimately, I’d like to see B.J. Ryan or John Gaub work out, which would allow Sean Marshall a more permanent shot at the rotation, assuming Rich Harden doesn’t come back next year.

According to twitter, the Brewers have signed Corey Patterson (Source)

Rehabbing Chicago right-hander David Patton aggravated his groin injry while warming up prior to the fourth inning in the Tennessee Smokies’ 4-1 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday. Before exiting, Patton allowed an earned run on two hits with four strikeouts over three frames. David Patton has allowed three earned runs on seven hits over 7 2/3 rehab innings. One Response to “Marmol Annoys Me, Patton Still Bad & Hurt, Gorzelanny on Short Leash”

  1. Rick Beato says:

Forget Marmol and Patton. We have seen the real Kevin Gregg. Sure a closer can blow a save, though 3 runs with 2 outs, none on, and 2 strikes on a terrible hitter like Ronnie Paulino is an especially ugly BS. But Lord almighty, a decent closer would be delighted to get another shot the next day. A decent closer would, you know, close. The pitch he threw to Dan Uggla, a .245 hitter who can do one thing — hit mistakes in the seats — got a batting practice fat pitch in his absolute wheelhouse. Guess getting behind 3-1 is a bad idea, Kevin. And to follow with the very next pitch? Gutless, talentless, awful. This man helped the Marlins more this weekend than he did all season last year as he topped the league in blown saves. He is on the way to “defending his title” as the BS closer of the league.

By the way, it was reported that Aramis would play today. Of course he did not. Now I read a report that he will “try to play” Monday. So what is the over/under on that? Friday? Aramis NEVER gets back in the lineup as quickly as predicted, does he?
