And if the Cubs win on a given day, it’s all good.

This is the most important part of all of this.

Well, I'm outta here for some R&R this weekend. Happy 4th everyone!

We've only bashed you 62.7% of the opportunities to do so; ergo, not every chance we get. Our BABIP (Bashes on Blogs in Play) for June was only .458

I'm actively trying not to bash Dave as it is no longer necessary. We should all try to "always look on the bright side of life". We all have personality quirks, and I actually kind of miss it when a day goes by and nobody pointed out a minuscule exaggeration with statistics. And if the Cubs win on a given day, it's all good.
Now I have to fetch up master Sherm's kiwi coctail

And I know Fontenot probably has more upside.
This is probably why. But at this point I don't see much difference in value (offense+defense) in Blanco vs. Fontenot.

I still think that Fontenot will start hitting again at some point, but I am less convinced about him than anyone else struggling.

are you joining the sherm “bash dave and his use of stats every chance you get” team?

Dave, why Fontenot? At this point, I'd rather see Blanco. I think he's much better defensively, and at this point it's a wash offensively between the two. And I know Fontenot probably has more upside.

Just curious.

That means he’s already taking that approach, but not really producing the way we’d need for a leadoff hitter.
He has definitely always taken this approach, and has had a lot of patience. He just had a really bad June. Now the question was the bad June just a slump, or another start to a really bad second half?

FWIW, Fukudome still was patient in June (97 point difference between BA and OBP, still drew 11 walks, etc), but only had a .222 BABIP, which could account for some (but not all) of his bad numbers.

My ideal lineup would probably look something like this:

Fukudome
Bradley
Lee
ARam
Soriano
Soto
Fontenot
Theriot

Having Fukudome, Bradley, and Lee in front of ARam would give three good/very good OBP in front of ARam, and ARam woudl be protected by Soriano and Soto.

I think if he approached at-bats like a leadoff hitter, and took a lot of pitches, he could get on-base at a pretty good clip. He has a good eye. He’ll get punched out a few times, as well, but it would be better than watching Soriano look like a human windmill.

Not to go all "Dave" on ya, but Fukudome ranks 23rd in the NL with 4+ pitches seen per plate appearance. That means he's already taking that approach, but not really producing the way we'd need for a leadoff hitter. He did have some good AB's yesterday, making some solid contact.
