And why was Hendry looking to trade for Ibanez to play RF last year?
I have no idea. Of course, we don't really know what Hendry tried to do last year.
And Bradley the guy that played 20 games was a legitimate option for RF? Looks like the options were all pretty equal to me.
The number of games they played last year is somewhat irrelevant. Their ability to actually play out there is much more relevant.

Sorry... I just don't think that Lou would have ever put up with Ibanez or Dunn playing in RF every day. If he wasn't okay with Hoffpauir without there, he wouldn't be okay with Dunn or Ibanez.

I've never argued that defense doesn't matter.

It isn't nitpicking. There is a big reason why it is important.

My view is that it isn't realistic to compare Bradley with Ibanez/Dunn, as they never were legitimate options to play RF on a full-time basis.

Bradley won't ever win a gold glove in RF, but he is infinitely better than Ibanez/Dunn. And yes, defense does matter.

Whatever. Once again you are right.

Must be a slow day, since your nit picking is full steam.

Never mind that they’re all playing a lot of RIGHT FIELD.
Dunn has played 21 of his 76 games in RF this year. Ibanez has played 0 in RF this year.

That is a lot of Right Field?

Sorry... I just don't think it is accurate to call Dunn or Ibanez right fielders.

What other RFers? Dunn and Ibanez are not and were not right fielders.

Give it a rest Dave. Fine, OUTFIELDERS.

less Gary Sheffield
Heh... pretty sure you would be silent about Bradley if he were performing like Gary Sheffield (career numbers: .292/.394/.516), even Shef's numbers this year (.289/.397/.514).

Dave you are smarter than this, re-think it. Miles was not signed to eat into Carlos Marmol’s playing time
DeRosa was traded because the Cubs believed that Mike Fontenot could step in and be a starting 2b.

Miles was signed as a backup.

So sure... because DeRosa was traded (or going to be traded) they needed a backup 2b. But Miles was never supposed to replace DeRosa. He was supposed to replace Cedeno or Fontenot.
Bradley’s contract was right in line with all of the other RF’s that inked deals this summer.
What other RFers? Dunn and Ibanez are not and were not right fielders.

He saw much different pitches than being protected by the Cubs pitcher.

This is exactly my argument behind Soriano not hitting leadoff. If someone IS on base, its usually a fluke pitcher or AAmiles or some other #8 hitting castoff. If the Cubs are to go anywhere this season, it will not be with Soriano driving in the pitcher or the #8 hitter. This team has at least 3 Ewoks right now, and Ewoks get on base...sometimes. We need the big bad Wookies to start driving in runs, and that begins with them actually getting at-bats with runners in front of them.

Here's hoping (grasping) that Bradley's night off (diaper change) motivates him into becoming more of a team guy and winner, and less Gary Sheffield as the summer moves forward. I'd love to see the Cubs pimping Bradley for the All-Star game...instead of Soriano. They both seem to have giant egos, but with Soriano, you don't get the added production when he is coddled like a child. He just gets hot and cold like an inbound asteroid. Bradley seems to play better when the milk in his bottle is warm. I am so desperate, I am calling for the Cubs to kiss his booty in an effort to get even half his salary in production out of him. His contract is too rotten to ever hope we will be rid of him any time soon.
