Okay, here we go again. The Cubs sent Jake Fox back to Iowa, ostensibly to make room for blockbuster hitter Aaron Miles or Harden (who won’t be ready to pitch until Saturday.) My guess is that our new Neifi (Miles) will get the call-up.
I’m starting to think it’s time to trade Fox since the management won’t even give him a frickin’ chance. Send him to another team so he can win RoY, anybody notice that the young man can hit? So let’s trade him for yet another pitcher that can’t hack it at the Triple A level and be done with it. Everybody says he can’t field but show me please some Major League stats that show that; I know why Jason Dubois and Matt Murton got traded, at least they got a chance.
I’ve been giving Piniella and Hendry a chance but it’s frustrating when you have a hitting problem and you have a guy that can hit and you don’t let him show what he’s worth. Any more clown acts like this and I’m ready to just sit back and write post-mortems about how the team had chances but didn’t produce.

To who? You have to have a trading partner in order to make a trade.
My guess is that about 29 teams would take him, I’m frustrated by this move. Does Blanco or Scales give us better value? Methinks we can use Fox’ bat more, I’m hoping that Hendry and Piniella will put their thinking caps on before it’s too late for this 2009 team.
I’d rather have him in a late inning pinch hit only role than Scales or Blanco. What is killing the Cubs is Aramis being out. They have nobody to play 3rd that is worth anything there. I was concerned about it in spring training, and Hendry has done nothing to address this huge hole in the roster. I have to wonder if this isn’t ownership (or lack thereof) driven…
Did no one read my comment from earlier today? Everyone of the “league insiders” said no one has called Hendry about Fox. NO ONE. That speaks volumes about what the league thinks of him.
No one had to call Hendry about Fox, he has options. Respectfully you are missing the point.
Maybe we can keep Fox and trade Aaron Miles.
Where am I missing the point?
Yea… not sure what point MJ is missing.
I really don’t see much of a trade market for Fox. Not many teams are looking for an almost 27 year old DH who struggled to hit AAA pitching until this year.
With that said, at this point I would rather seem on the big league roster than Miles or Scales.
Why do we need a guy who can hit? We scored a run tonight. I read somewhere that Milkit left 10 men on base Tuesday. That is tough to do, he should be proud.
Play Fox somewheres, anywheres just get him in the line up and see if he can hit at the major league level- he’s got to be better than Milkit or even Dlee. If LaRussa had him he would be in the line up somehow someway.
Fox, playing full-time, would not be better than Bradley or Lee over a full season.
Lee has a career OPS of 861.
Bradley has a career OPS of 821.
Fox has a minor league career OPS of 884.
Fox has only put up slightly better numbers against far inferior pitchers.
And do I need to continue remind people that Derrek Lee has a line of .321/.436/.551 (OPS:.987) since the beginning of May? Fox wouldn’t come close to that playing full-time.
Where? Where would Fox play for the Cardinals?
It doesn’t matter. Defense doesn’t matter. He can hit. Just play him.
My head is going to explode this season from the constant statements that DLee is somehow an inferior player. The guy is hitting .269 right now (and, as Dave points out, .321 since early May), and was hitting nearly .300 last year in what everyone was calling a “slump.” Bob Brenly in last night’s broadcast said you basically couldn’t find many players better than Derrek Lee.
I think the issue is more that I keep taking these comments to heart, when I really should just be looking at Lee’s play, his numbers, and listening to people like Brenly who live and breathe baseball.
Really–any game this season and especially in the last few weeks shows we have some issues we actually need to deal with. Our frightening bullpen, perhaps. Or the fact that we don’t have a backup third baseman. Or that we have a complete primadonna for our “ace” starter.
Say whatever you want about Bradley, though. I’m about done with that one.
