King Arthur divx In 41 games with Iowa, Jake Fox committed 3 errors in the field, all of which came at 1B. Just sayin’
Since 1965, only three Cubs first round picks have made a significant impact on the game. (Shawon Dunston, Rafael Palmeiro, and Joe Carter). Just sayin’
Sean Marshall pitched out of relief Mobsters ipod
yesterday again and gave up a run. Just sayin’
Every single hitter that stepped to the plate last night for the Cubs got on base, except the Milkman (hat tip to Sherm for the new nickname), who was 0-for-6 with 3 K’s. Just sayin’

Not just 0 for 6 with 3 k’s — but 0 for 6 with 3 k’s and…
ten runners left on base! Ten! LOB!
I’m no mathematician, but statistically speaking? That’s a lot.
Of course, anyone could have a bad spring. Note to Milky — summer starts on June 21. Maybe you could, too? Please? Little help?
Sherm
And on another note about last night, Fox got another pinch hit to raise his average in PH appearances to .833. I look at that number and think, wow, he can certainly do that.
And then I see that he is headed back to Iowa — for Aaron Miles. Miles, who showed me axactly nothing this spring. So we have Blanco, whose glove I like, and Scales, whose hustle I like, and Miles, whose absence was the only thing worth liking. And no right-hand bat on the bench with any power.
So Fox had his chance and “only” hit .833 in the pinch, I guess. For Aaron Miles?
So will Aaron Miles DH when we go on the road to AL parks? That makes sense — we don’t want to overdo it on the offense.
I know a lot of you aren’t local, and so you don’t get to hear a lot of the sports radio. But everyone, and I mean everyone, that discusses Jake Fox (and that includes the fabulous Ken Rosenthal) says no team feels comfortable with him on the field for prolonged periods. The other note they keep bringing up is, if Fox is so wonderful, why isn’t Hendry getting any offers for him from AL teams to DH? Rosenthal said he hasn’t heard of one team that’s asked about him. That speaks volumes people. Of course, that’s why there’s bloggers who blog on baseball, and not scouts blogging.
Poor Milton. At this point you can see he’s just pressing and hoping something goes right. Even a 0-fer night and he stills busts his ass and makes a great catch in with game essentially over. But let’s keep harping on the guy. I guess there’s no one left though, since D-Lee is hitting .269 now, and continues to hit. Wasn’t two weeks ago we was washed up?
Why can’t we ever see anything positive around here?
Oh yeah. Just sayin.
Well… there is a lot more to playing defense than just making errors. And they all came at 1b because he got 90% of his chances at 1b.
I actually don’t get this either. As most here know, I am no fan of Jake Fox. But Miles doesn’t really bring much to this team. Yes, he is much better than Fox defensively, and can play 2b/ss. But it isn’t like he is a great, or even good, fielder. He is just okay.
I don’t expect Fox to be a good hitter in the majors. But I do expect him to be a better hitter than Miles.
With that said, I do believe that Miles can be a serviceable backup/utility infielder, and I hope that his injury was hurting him at the plate and that he will be (slightly) more productive now that he is hopefully healthy.
Hey… guess who now has a higher OPS than Micah Hoffpauir?
Hoffpauir: .269/.319/.452 OPS: .771
DLee: .269/.358/.437 OPS: .795
Lee also has a 18 game streak of reaching base, and has put a line of .333/.436/.559 (OPS .996) since May 1st.
Lee is now second on the team in OBP (among qualified players).
Too bad we didn’t bench Lee, eh?
I liked Dunston when he first appeared, but I got over that quickly. Seemed like he got so little out of so much.
Yes, Lee is finally hitting. I notice how he finally started to pick up right after I called for his outright release.
Soriano and Milkman should just be released. I’ve had it.
Nah… he was hitting for a few weeks before that.
Looks like vindication for Dave and those other of us who have taken a wait and see approach about poor hitting. One game does not make a trend, but Dlee picking it up is encouraging that others can do it too. Even the milkman.
And AAron Miles has hit well before…..when Phat Albert was hitting behind him. It’s really a shame that he has to come off of the DL, can’t he just linger there for a few more months?
I prefer to be an optimist and assume that we will enter a period where all that has been so bad for the last 3 weeks will turn out good. Look for the Cubs in first by the 4th of July.
