It’s July 4th. Carlos Zambrano returns from the DL tonight and I want to change the subject to celebrate. I have an interesting question for you and I’m curious to see what people think.
If you could go back and attend any sporting event in history, what would it be? As a bonus, if you could attend any event in history, regardless of sports, what would it be?
For me, my sporting event would be February 22, 1980. I would love to go back and attend the Miracle on Ice live and in person.
As for the non-sports event, it would have to be the signing of the constitution. That would be unbelievable.
Headed into the Fourth of July weekend, “The Pitch” — presented by Liveboard — celebrates the Rays’ ridiculous run to the best record in baseball by eating crow for host Brandon Rosage’s 2006 comments ridiculing Tampa Bay for changing its team name. The tribute comes a day after the Rays finished off another sweep of the Red Sox with a come-from-behind winner at home.
The guys then discuss two urgent matters facing the business of baseball: MLB’s accusations against the FBI and Joe Buck’s hatred for his job as a baseball broadcaster.
And there’s plenty of trade deadline chatter about C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Daniel Cabrera and the Mariners seeking new ownership. But none of it compares to the pain of weighing the two or three worst injuries in baseball, as outlined by host Joe Aiello. We’ll spare you descriptions here, but let’s just say Joe makes a lot of references to ailing crotches and rear-ends.
Plus, we set up a new month of the “Pick-Off” competition with a free Liveboard up for the taking. Enjoy and interact via e-mail at thepitch@mvn.com or via phone at 360-450-MVN3.

Great questions. I’m going to keep the answers to events in my lifetime, though, to make it a little more realistic.
Sporting event-wise, assuming I could have a prime seat, I’ll go with Secretariat at the 1973 Belmont Stakes. It’s tough to beat your pick though.
As for anything, I’ll take being in the studio audience for the Beatles on Ed Sullivan — February 7, 1964.
Sporting event would be the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game when Indiana beat Syracuse on Keith Smart’s last second shot.
Historically, maybe a Rachmaninoff performance (by Rachmaninoff himself) (2nd piano concerto perhaps…)
I would have liked to see the AL East one-game playoff between the Red Sox and Yankees in 1978. I was all of 11 years old but dreamed Ron Guidry would someday be my husband. Nevermind he was already married with kids and was probably almost old enough to have fathered me himself. I didn’t care. I’m not a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan but that game gave Guidry his 25th regular season win courtesy of Bucky Dent who would have been my second choice for a husband at the time.
Shows how much you know at age 11.
Still contemplating the non-sports one.
I would have to say that “The Sandberg Game” would have to be the one that I truely would want to see in person. I dont really care about major events just the good cubs games and that will be one that is talked about for a long time. Unless your last name is Sutter. LOL
