Sevierville, Tennessee — The Tennessee Smokies Professional Baseball Club, the Class AA Southern League Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have added LHP Darin Downs and RHP Dumas Garcia to the active roster. In a related roster move, RHP Jesse Estrada and RHP Rocky Roquet have been sent to join the Class A Daytona Cubs.

Downs joins the Smokies for the first time after spending the entire 2007 and current season in Daytona. The 23-year old native of Boynton Beach, FL posted a 2-0 record with Daytona this season, with a 2.89 ERA over 28 innings pitched. Downs was selected by the Cubs in the 5th round of the 2003 draft, and is in his sixth season of professional baseball.

Garcia also is joining the Smokies for his first stint at the Double-A level. He was signed by the Cubs this off-season as a minor-league free agent in September of 2007. Garcia, a 24-year old resident of Tulia, Columbia, played for South Georgia of the Independent League during the 2007 season, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.44 ERA.
