I missed the actual live shot (my gym had on billiards but no Cubs--GRRR!!). But the replays at night showed that ball was foul. It was close but clearly foul. The local broadcasters on the show didn't even try to pretend it was fair.

But that's part of the game. The calls for us will balance with the calls against us at some point.

Some time this week I will try to have an item on the DeRosa home run call from the view of both sides of the press box.

^ Tha natural hook of the ball took it foul well before the foul pole. I won't argue that. It was a gift.

That home run by DeRosa was to the left of the foul pole not over it come on now lol. It was far from inconclusive. The ball either is to the left of the pole, hit the pole, or was to the right of the pole. It was a bad call. I don't know what kind of camera angles that Cubs broadcast had but trust me as a Phillies fan they showed that so called home-run dozens of times with freeze frames and the like and it was certainly foul and only a very homerish cubs fan would say otherwise.

what was the deal with the substitutions. When Lou put Pie in to try and draw out the lefty which was fine, but then still used ward two batters later still against the lefty?
seemed odd.
might have well put ward in first and saved two players for the extra innings.

Where's the love for Cedeno. It seems like no matter what he does, people want to find what is wrong in it. The way I look at it, Cedeno stole the base, end of story. It was a nice steal, and ensured that the tying run scored on Geo's hit.

Also, later on, I though Ronny had a real nice AB that turned into him taking a walk...then scoring the winning run. How about giving some credit where it is due. As Joe talked about in a recent post, there does seem to be two camps in regard to Cedeno. I am of the one that thinks he could really be a decent player for us, and he did do a nice job today!

Despite Wuertz's bad effort today, I am really starting to feel comfortable with our bullpen. Now we have three of our BP guys with a save....which I think shows how interchangeable they are. We have a lot of flexability down there, which is a big bonus.

And how about our play in tight games, now 3-0 in extra innings I believe. Much better than last year at this time.

Joe:
I did not see the game, but after reading Joe's and Matt's summary, I have to agree with Matt's interpretation of Soto's hit. Matt has justification to be critical of Pie. Pie has not performed to date. I know he got a solid hit four days ago, but he has not hit anything else. We need him to perform and he has not yet. So the critical comments are warranted.

How is Lee not up there with a star? Three hits, a 2-run double, and the game saving defensive play in the bottom of the 9th.

C'mon, gotta at least give him an honorable mention.

I agree with Matty and disagree with Joe. I didn't see the home run but i do know that if it was hit on the left side it was foul then fair. If it was on the right it was fair first. I know Geo needs time off but geez, he seems like the consistent one right now.
