The next lap will be the bell lap for the Spring season.
Here’s what’s been happening with our rivals
Cardinals
- Amazingly, Juan Gonzalez is hurt.
- Kyle Lohse signed to try and fill out a crumbling rotation
- Top Prospect Colby Rasmus didn’t make the team
- Rick Ankiel is their center fielder until further notice; Rasmus must wait.
Reds
- Of course, Dusty gets Corey Patterson, sends Jay Bruce to the minors - which is just the dropping of the other shoe
- Joey Votto, on the other hand, may get to start at first, while Hatteberg takes a hike.
- Turns out Reds tickets are cheaper than Cubs tickets, which cost an arm and leg - all you need for Reds tickets is luck and a pint of blood.
- They traded some Salmon for cash or PTBNL
Astros
- Gary Redus, base-running coach. If you can’t hit, you gotta run.
- I’d rather not talk about Kaz Matsui’s problem. Never happened to Biggio.
- A Rule V lefty is making a good case to stick around
- The ’stros closed down Dodgertown
Brewers
- Yovani Gallardo goes on the DL
- Chris Capuano is ailing yet again
- Attanasio is like every other owner and is finding an unsurprising way to raise money
- Mike Cameron wants a greenie waiver
Pirates
- Freddy Sez his shoulder is getting worse
- Ian Snell will front the rotation armed with a contract extension
- Zack Duke, also a recipient of a new contract, is finding his form
- Paul Maholm fell behind 3-1 to Billy Crystal

Thankfully, Dusty is now the Reds problem.
Ryan Freel is said to be on the trading block because he is the odd man out in the outfield. I know that he is injury prone, but let’s compare his stats to those of Corey Patterson:
Patterson: .258/.298/.414 OPS+: 83
Freel: .270/.358/.378 OPS+: 91
Of course, Dusty probably likes Corey because he doesn’t clog up the bases:

FJM is going to have loads of great material, thanks to Dusty, this year. They’ve had a great Spring
