Should Jim Hendry Get An Extension?

Extend him as long for as many year as Lou has left on his contract. I don’t see how there is any other sensible thing to do. They succeed and fail together. Thats, that.

I agree with Jerious. If Lou has 3 years left on his contract (through 2010) then you give Jim an extension through 2010. He certainly has done nothing to merit anything else. All in all, he does a pretty good job.

I say he should be extended. He has done a good job thus far. But, even if that was not the case, it seems idiotic to head into this coming offseason, where there will be so many other questions to answer about the sale of the team and the ballpark, with a question at general manager too. I say extend him one more year and then re-evaluate.

I like the fact that Hendry works with the manager to shape the roster. Dusty got his guys, and Lou is getting rid of those guys. I’m not saying that a manager’s guys are always great guys to have around, but I am saying that it’s good to give the manager a big role in the roster when we’re hiring experienced managers. There are GMs out there who shape the roster the way they see fit and make the manager make do.

Hendry has done a decent job and with Lou being in the second year of a three-year deal, I say extend away.

I am confused as to all the attacks aimed at Hendry. Show me a GM that has a perfect trading/free-agent signing record and I’ll show you pigs that fly. When was the last time the Cubs have been in the position to win on a semi-regular basis? the 30′s? the 40′s? You don’t see Cashman from the Yanks being thrown under the bus for Pavano or Cox for Hampton, etc. Give me a break, Hendry is doing just fine.

what’s he done thats so special? Cubs have spent a lot of money in payroll the entire time Hendry has been GM, what do they have to show for it? He builds the team through free agency and supplements the team with players in the minors, which is the opposite way to do things. And once the core of this team is past their prime, they don’t have the farm system, which Hendry is also responsible for, to plug in the pieces.

absolutely have to extend it. he does whatever it takes to win. some GM’s sit back and try to win through the farm system but Hendry is always active in the free agent market and he constantly wants to win now. that’s the kind of guy i want running the team
