I agree with Jose, no way should we go more than three players, even if they are to be named later!!!We can not sell the farm for this guy. Fuld is supposed to be up and coming as far as SB's and chances are Roberts' would be on the way down as he is now past 30. I am not convinced he is worth it, especially now that we have the added pop of Fukudome (as well as his stolen base threat). I can wait a year for Eric Patterson, why not play DeRosa everyday and platoon Patterson and Theriot? Surely one of these three can move switch positions, last year DeRosa played less games at short than he ever did in his career.

Damn... Let's shoot the moon on this one. Let's dump Colvin, Cedeno and Murton. If we can get Roberts, let's get Roberts, who is worth 3 wins over DeRosa.

I can't wait another 100 years!

Jacki, Murton showed he can't take good routes to balls, his arm is below average, and he's lost when balls are even hit right at him.

I like him as an offensive bat off the bench for late inning substitutions, but not much more. He's a perfect 4th outfielder.

He was horrid in RF last year, he was fine in LF the year prior. Doesn't have a good arm. IMO, he would make a fine LF for any team.

The problem with the Cubs last year was that they had 4 LF's playing the OF. This year Murton won't get an opportunity at any spot unless they try Fukudome in CF.

I have never been impressed with Murton's defense, I know he is slow, BUT, is it as bad as you are making it out to be?

Mike: you're leaving out the important numbers which are 296/365/455. RBI's are a team stat and not predictive of anything.
Are they earth shattering numbers? No. But this would put him in the top 15 or so left fielders (why they haven't tried Soriano in RF with his arm is beyond me) and he is far, FAR, from what was said; "he's not that good."

I personally dont think it matters one way of the other to Andy MacPhail if they get rid of Roberts at all this season. He is still under contract and that my friends is the worst it can get for them. They already plan on paying him BUT if they can get the moon for him then that is a good thing for them but they arent pushing it as hard as the Cubs fans(myself included) are. I think that we can do just fine with out him with the way the team looks right now. Lets just keep our prospects and let Lou work his magic once again and be happy with what we have.

I would trade Murton, Cedeno, and one of our top pitching prospects. That is it, no more. I think we can wait Baltimore out. If they want more now, their price tag will fall sooner or later. If they think that they can get more, why haven't they so far? I do not think that there is a big demnad for Roberts out there. We are in a waiting game.

Assuming the average player gets about 550 AB in a season, some quick calculations show that, by taking his career numbers and dividing them by 1.5 (how many seasons 830 AB is), an average Murton year would look like this:

H: 164, 2B: 25, HR: 19, RBI: 65, BB: 58, K: 82

Not exactly earth shattering for a corner outfielder.

It is a good year, but nothing too special. It would be nice to see the RBI and 2B up a bit, but it is a pretty decent season. There are a lot of teams that he could start for, which is why there is so much interest in him. With that said, Murton's offense is not his issue. He is absolutely atrocious in the field. He is too slow to get to the ball, when it is hit right at him he can't catch it, and when he finally has the ball he can't throw to save his life. Most corner outfielders that put up a line like that are decent fielders who make up for their limits on offense with their defensive ability. Conversely, most corner outfielders who play defense as terribly as he does, make up for it at the plate. Can you say.....Adam Dunn? Murton is the worst of both worlds. And about Fukudome, he is a gold glove winner in Japan and has CF defensive ability in RF, rather then the DH defensive ability in RF we see from Murton.

No real problem with Murton's bat.
His ability in the field is the question to me.
