Scouting Report on todays starters from MLB.com
Phil Dumatrait – Coming off a poor 3 1/3-inning, six-run Major League debut vs. the Nationals, Dumatrait fared better Thursday vs. the Dodgers. The rookie lefty allowed two earned runs and seven hits over six innings with two walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision. The Reds lost the game, 5-4, in 11 innings. Dumatrait displayed command problems and fell behind often the first two innings when he was pumping one fastball after another. He began mixing his pitches better in later innings and fared better.
Ted Lilly – Lilly struggled with his fastball and curveball command Thursday in Denver, walking five and throwing a season-high 127 pitches. But he made pitches when he needed to and held the Rockies to two runs on five hits in six innings. He’s won seven of his last eight starts.
