Scouting Report on todays starters from MLB.com
Matt Morris – Morris tossed a perfect first two innings in his last start, holding the Dodgers to two hits in four innings before unraveling in the fifth. He gave up two home runs and six earned runs. After the game, Morris said his cutter has been the biggest problem in his past couple starts.

Ted Lilly – Lilly tamed a homer-friendly wind at Wrigley Field in his last start, holding the Astros to four hits over eight innings. He has won his past five starts and has pitched at least six innings in each of those games. He helped himself against Houston with an RBI single, only the third RBI of his career.

News and Notes

  • The Cubs announced today that they have traded Cesar Izturis and cash to the Pirates for a PTBNL. What that means is probably sometime in the next few weeks or months, Jim Hendry will get a list of players from Dave Littlefeld and will get to choose one to complete this trade. Izturis will compete with Jack Wilson for the starting SS job.
  • To replace Izturis, the Cubs recalled Jake Fox from AA Tennessee. I guess it was pretty good timing to have a scouting report on Fox today. Jake is available for the game today and will wear # 9.
  • Wade Miller is set to make another rehab start with the Iowa Cubs tomorrow
  • Lou Piniella let everyone know that Ryan Dempster will be the closer when he returns on Friday
