Scouting Report on todays starters from MLB.com
Matt Morris – Morris tossed a perfect first two innings in his last start, holding the Dodgers to two hits in four innings before unraveling in the fifth. He gave up two home runs and six earned runs. After the game, Morris said his cutter has been the biggest problem in his past couple starts.
Ted Lilly – Lilly tamed a homer-friendly wind at Wrigley Field in his last start, holding the Astros to four hits over eight innings. He has won his past five starts and has pitched at least six innings in each of those games. He helped himself against Houston with an RBI single, only the third RBI of his career.

I’m pretty disappointed in the trade. We gave them cash too? Hendry, the Kendall deal was good, this one you got hosed.
Matt, you can’t say that if you don’t know the amount of case OR who the PTBNL is. There have been a few that have turned into very good players (i.e. – Jeremy Bonderman, Scott Podsednik, Coco Crisp, Moises Alou, Jason Schmidt, and David Ortiz.)
i think they added a roster sport for someone else they are going to bring in. Dont think the prospect will be on the 25 man roster
Joe, that’s a short list. This is one deal that I think he jumped head first into. We’ll see. We all know I’m wrong consistently.
Matt I know that you liked Izzie, so I doubt you would have liked the trade anyway. It’s a tough world in MLB. I had read that Jack Wilson was being whispered in trade talks to. I can’t help but wonder what else the Pirates have going.
I agree with Blaker, I see this as shuffling rather than a move. Something (someone) else is coming…
Matt, you need to look at it this way. Izturis was going via FA anyway, so why not roll the dice and get someone in return?
Does anyone know if we would have gotten a draft pick as compensation for Izturis going via FA?
I’m still not happy with calling up Fox. Only way it makes sense is if we just need someone to ride the bench till tomorrow when we activate Dempster (theoretically)
doubtful. He’s not really considered a top FA
To be considered a Type A FA, a player needs to be considered in the top 20% in all of baseball at his position.
A type B FA needs to be in the 21-40% range.
Izturis is neither.
Ok, thats the distinction that I didn’t know. Thanks for clearing it up.
This one could get ugly real fast.
I like Izzy, but I wasn’t going to shed tears if he was traded. In fact I had hoped he was used in a package deal. Guess that flew out the window.
Slightly off topic…why are they bringing in special baseballs for Bonds?! He has three left. Let’s find one more way to manufacture some hype!
And it’s looking like we might be seeing Fox sooner than expected.
Yeah, I am surprised more pitchers aren’t throwing the special balls at his ear hole.
Izturis is terrible. We’ll never miss him. If we want a light-hitting SS with a decent glove, we’ve already got Cedeno, and he’s probably a better hitter than Izturis.
How in the hell did Lilly walk Durham to load the bases with Bonds on deck. I don’t care if you have to throw it underhanded, you’ve gotta make Durham swing.
Is anybody else having trouble with MLBTV right now?
I agree with Professor Y. What ever we can get for Izzy is fine with me. Now let’s work on Jones.
Does anyone think that Eyre might be turning it around? Earlier in the year I was calling for his trade. But, I think that he has pitched decently lately and might have a role on the team.
I’ve got some good stuff for you guys to discuss in the recap today. Be sure to leave your thoughts when it’s posted after the game.
Jones is doing his damnedest to pick it up. At least over the last few days. Now with Floyd and Ward being nicked up, Jones might be staying a bit longer. If he keeps rocking, he might play himself back into Lou’s good graces.
Can I add Will Ohman to my "trade him now" list?
OH MAN!
Someone tell me why Lou would let Marmol hit for himself, if he’s just going to bring in Howry anyway?
Because the bench was bare.
OK, then why wasn’t Marmol trying to sacrifice the runners over? I am following the game on SI.com, no video or audio.
The Brewers are not going quietly into the night. Still 3.5 out.
The offense carried the pitching today. Sometimes it’s the other way around.
