That our 12 pitcher is now en route from the Tennessee Smokies. His name? Well, it’s none other than Billy Petrick. Petrick was a 3rd round pick in 2002 for the Cubs, drafted ahead of Rich Hill that year. He’s a product of Morris H.S., which is also responsible for producing the former 7th round pick from the Twins, Kelly Dransfeldt. Here are Petrick’s numbers so far this season at two different levels in the organization. The first is his numbers from Daytona (A+) and the second row represents his numbers from Tennessee (AA)

No word has come over the wire as to if this is in fact true. If it is, it would mean that a 40 man roster spot would opened. How could that have happened?

  • Jones has been traded or DFA’d
  • Miller has been placed on the 60 day DL
  • Blanco has been placed on the 60 day DLWe’ll see which is the case.

Update – I’ve seen some rumors around the web that Jones has been dealt to the Marlins. No word on if they’re true, but i’ve seen it on both a Cubs message board and a Marlins message board as well. Stay Tuned!!!!

Update # 2 – Ryan Dempster is reportedly headed to the DL, which would mean the Cubs need two pitchers. Billy Petrick has been confirmed as one, but how he gets on the 40 man roster is still a mystery.

Update # 3 – The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Jacque Jones has in fact been dealt to the Marlins. (Source)
