But not for the Cubs. Several outlets are reporting that the Florida Marlins and Boston Red Sox have agreed to a trade that would send Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett to the Red Sox in exchange for top shortstop prospect Hanley Ramirez, minor league pitcher Anibal Sanchez and a player to be named later. What does this mean for the Cubs? Well, basically that the rumors of a Marlins fire sale are true, and that Jim Hendry needs to get on the phone to Florida before there’s nothing left.
It also means that the Marlins will have built and systematically destroyed two World Series teams in less than 10 years. You know, being a fan of team that breaks up it’s World Series teams doesn’t actually sound that bad to me. At least it means you’ve won one.
