The Cubs split-squad efforts Saturday led to an 11-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds and a 7-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies. A lot of moving parts were in action as the regular season sits a week away; some players are hitting their strides (like the NL MVP), some have some work to do (like the Cubs new closer).
The battle for the 5th starter spot was determined this week but the Ian Happ decision hasn’t. With the Cubs having one more week of training, and their annual trip to Las Vegas this weekend, it will be interesting to hear what the Cubs plan to do with this kid…and where to play him.
