Davis, Cubs Blow Opportunity to Increase Central Lead

The Cubs took the lead twice late in Saturday’s game against Milwaukee only to see then-perfect closer Wade Davis blow not one, but two leads in 4-3 loss to drop the Cubs lead in the NL Central to 4.5 games. But … breathe … it’s still not the early 2000s Cubs. It’s going to be OK. The Magic Number to clinch is now 4.

Cubs Lose to Pirates; but will still win the division if …

The Cubs are in the middle of a stretch where they play 17 of 20 games on the road. While “panicking” isn’t even a consideration while still only down 2.5 games in the division (even with another stinky loss on Saturday, this time 4-3 to the Pirates) … at some point you’ve got to wonder, what is it going to take to turn the power back on in this team? Perhaps, a big trade is the trick.

Cubs’ Mood Swing Continues, Roughed Up by Rox

In a microcosm of how their season has puttered along for the past month, the Cubs put forth another subpar effort, falling 9-1 to the Colorado Rockies as Eddie Butler took the loss against his former team and Colorado’s Jeff Hoffman looked like the second coming of Cy Young.
