Baseball America Trivia: 30 Homer Teammates

Written by , Posted in Trivia

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder are on a pace to become the first pair of Brewers teammates in history to hit at least 30 home runs apiece in three straight seasons. Can you name the two other sets of active playes who have had three consecutive 30-homer seasons as teammates.

Mouse over for hints

Hint # 1: Neither pair is still playing together

Hint # 2: Each pair contains a common player

Answer is in the comment section, so if you don’t want to know, don’t go there.

  • Manny and Big Papi in Boston and Manny and Thome in Cleveland.

  • Correct….way to ruin it so early. =)

  • I knew the first pair (Manny/Ortiz) without a hint, but the second hint then gave away the second pair.

  • Seymour Butts

I suppose it would take all of 12 milliseconds to come up with the first pair of team mates to do this.
At least I thought it would be, until I looked it up, so let’s throw it out there. What team mates were the first in MLB history to each have 30 homers in a single season.

  • Pretty sure that Marris/Mantle did it; not sure if any team had a pair before that.

  • Seymour Butts

Several teams did it before that.

    Hint: 1922
    Big Hint: Cardinals

  • I knew Papi and Manny was one, when it said that both pairs had a common teammate, I knew it was Manny and Thome

  • Ryan

Aren’t Manny and Thome currently playing together?

  • Yes they are, but they were also teammates on Tribe back in the 90s

  • Ryan

Right, I know that…but the hint says that the neither pair is still playing together.

  • I think what he meant is that they aren’t with team they did it on, plus Manny and Thome are not mashers in the lineup back to back the way they were with the Tribe, or the way Papi and Manny were with the Sawks, or how the world’s fattest vegetarian is with Braun

  • I just looked at Jim Edmonds career stats, if he had hit 2 more HR in 2002, and 1 more in 2005, he and Pujols would have had 5 consecutive 30 HR seasons as teammates from 2001-05

  • Seymour Butts

In 1922 Rogers Hornsby and Ken Williams (who?) became the first team mates to each have 30 HR in a single season.
    I know you were wondering.
