Rain Rain Go Away

Written by , Posted in General

No Game Yesterday

If you missed it, the game was postponed yesterday due to the weather forecast for the entire day. No makeup date has been announced as of yet. I was OK with the rainout. The Cubs have had a weird stretch since that game with the Yankees that went 18  innings, so it’s nice to see them get a little rest and know about it before the game started.

Jake Arrieta will face Chase Anderson in the game today. Scouting reports on the matchup from MLB.com:

Anderson has five consecutive starts without a decision, with the Brewers winning two of those outings. In his last start, the Padres had four runs and six hits in his 5 1/3 innings. Anderson is 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA in his career vs. the Cubs. Arrieta has had a rough May. He’s given up 12 earned runs over 15 2/3 innings in three games. In his last start, he made two mistakes, and both ended up as two-run homers by the Cardinals in a 5-0 loss.

Roster Moves

Jason Heyward was due back yesterday, and was posted in the lineup. The Cubs activated Heyward from the 10 day DL and optioned Pierce Johnson and Tommy La Stella. That leaves one open spot on the 25 man roster, which is expected to be Dylan Floro, to take Johnson’s spot in the bullpen. The good thing is that the Pierce(d) Johnson experience was quick and painless.

Spreadsheet geeks may want to know that the game will be made up on July 6th at 1:20 PM

The bright side, No Sloppy Joes today

    • I call them Sloppy Lame Joes.

The dance off was one of many reasons why Carl’s Jr. is my favorite Cub these days. You CAN have fun and still take it serious between the lines.

Bryant just hit a homerun to right, clearly late with his front foot. Offspeed and adjust. A 3-1 cutter.

Bryant did say he wants to go more to the opposite field this year

When the Cubs chased Chase Anderson out of the game today did Len say, “The Cubs Chase Anderson”?

Pat and Cooms were talking about how Russell is working on sitting on off speed pitches away and driving them into right center and on cue Russell drove an off speed pitch to right center for an RBI double. It’s like Pat and Cooms pay attention around the batting cage on what the coaches and players are working on. Meanwhile, Len was raving about the new Beatles XM station, all Beatles all the time.

I suppose one of them asked: “Is it sponsored by Orkin?”

      • Doc Raker

Cooms inferred the swing at the inside pitch to pull was a mistake because of the no out man on second situation and that looking to go the other way is ‘team baseball’. Plus Russell is getting beat trying to pull everything and needs to go the other way for some success.
