MESA, Ariz. – The Chicago Cubs have assigned six players to minor league camp and granted right-handed pitcher Jim Henderson his release, reducing their spring roster from 43 to 36 players.

Right-handed pitchers Jake Buchanan and Alec Mills, and infielder Jeimer Candelario have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Three non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitchers Williams Perez and Dylan Floro as well as left-handed pitcher David Rollins.

Chicago’s spring roster of 36 players consists of 16 pitchers, five catchers (two non-roster invitees), 10 infielders (four non-roster invitees) and five outfielders (one non-roster invitee).

Are the Cubs going with 12 of 13 pitchers to start the season?

    • Sherm

And if so, who is the odd man out?

      • Doc Raker

Lot’s of Odd folks around here to choose from

      • Jerry in Wisconsin

Well we know it isn’t Lizzie.

    • Joe Aiello

      I feel like we’ll see 13. Sigh

  • Doc Raker

Bret Anderson was named the Cubs 5th starter. Thoughts?

    • Doug S.

Yes, but he’s pitching in the 4th spot for now.

On the question of 12 or 13 pitchers my guess is 13. Who’s the casualty? TLS?

Bruce Levine says that szczur will be traded in the next week but if not I would start the season with 12 pitchers

Hey JSWAN – have fun in Vegas this weekend! Wish I could have gone…had planned to, but am heading to Hong Kong on Sunday and just couldn’t make it work.

meanwhile, in a battle for worst fucking hitter ever…Miggy Monter0-fer is leading Jason Overpaidward .114 to .140

I know stats don’t mean much in preseason, but really? .114? .140?

    • Doug S.

Double Jeopardy – I’ll take “He’s in his last year and He has a sweetheart deal with the Cubs for many years” for $500 please Alex.

    • Doc Raker

I just felt the hand of god was with us when Miggy contributed down the stretch to deliver some big hits, a grand slam against the Dojers, the big RBI hit in game 7 for the 8th and winning run and he had a big hit against the Cardinals in the regular season if I recall. As far as Miggy goes I can’t asked for much more.

Heyward because every time you think he’s turning a corner, he lets you down. After the benching and his blast in SD, I thought he’d finally snap out of it. Nope. The Heyward game. Nope. If he performs like this again in 2017, he better be left off the playoff roster. I don’t care if he’s a 184M bench player. His contract is a sunk cost as far as I’m concerned. I’d see if I could trade him to another team for construction materials. I’d say we’ll pay his contract, you give us the construction materials. A soccer team did that once. Traded several players for construction materials for the stadium.
