Cubs 17, Cardinals 5 – Game Questions
MVP – Starlin Castro (.145 WPA)
First I’d like to apologize for the last few days where we’ve had virtually nothing on the site for new content up until yesterday. Sometimes life just gets in the way. That said, I wanted to try something a little different with today’s post. I came away from yesterday’s laugh of a game with questions.
Why can’t Jeff Samardzija borrow just a few of those runs? – I always say to myself every year that I’d like to do an experiment where I take the amount of runs we scored in a season the year before and dump those in a pot. Before each game I would declare how many I’d like to spend on that day’s game and see what record I could come up with. Maybe next year. But, the question still remains: Why can’t the Cubs score when Shark is on the mound?
Was the hit by pitch in the top of the 6th cause for an ejection? – Travis Wood hit two Cardinals in the bottom of the 5th and then on the first pitch in the top of the 6th, got plunked. I think it was grounds to be ejected, without any warnings.
Was the play at the plate considered blocking the plate? Here is the replay. I don’t think they were even reviewing that concept, but I’m curious as to what the rule applies here.
What should our expectations be of Mike Olt? – He hit his 8th home run of the season and has been on a power surge over the last week or so. What should our expectations for him be. I maintain my statement that I think he’ll lead the team in home runs when the season is over. The batting average is not going to be strong, but the glove will play nicely at third. I consider that a useful piece to the puzzle.
Will Junior Lake have six RBI in a game ever in his career? – I say no
Will the Cubs score at least 15 runs in another game this year? – I say yes
