Farm Report

Triple A: Round Rock Express 4, Iowa Cubs 3

Double A: Tennessee Smokies 1, Chattanooga Lookouts 0

High A: Daytona Cubs 6, Brevard County Manatees 2

Low A: Beloit Snappers 6, Peoria Chiefs 1

Performances of Note: Anthony Rizzo collected two more hits in the Iowa Cubs’ loss to Round Rock. Brett Jackson also reached base, hitting a triple and drawing a walk. Josh Vitters has walked in each of his first two games at Triple A. While that on it’s own is far too little to draw anything meaningful, if Vitters is able to show some real patience he could become a very legitimate prospect again. Trey McNutt only threw 3.2 innings in his first start for the Tennessee Smokies this season. He did not allow any runs, only allowed two hits and struck out three, but he also walked three. There is no indication yet as to why he was taken out, but at 72 pitches and with two of his three walks coming in the last three batters McNutt faced, it may have just been a matter of a guy being early in the season combined with the pitch count concerns that often go along with that. Daytona shortstop Arismendy Alcantara had a huge game, going three for three with a home run and four runs batted in from the ninth spot in the lineup.
