Tuesday Puzzle

Written by , Posted in Trivia

Today I present something a little different than normal. A logic puzzle for you to work on as you seek refuge from your job during the day. If anyone asks, it’s not my fault you got fired for working on a silly puzzle on company time. Here are the clues. Use them to name each player that fields each of the nine positions on the diamond.

Clue # 1 – Andy dislikes the Catcher

Clue # 2 – Ed’s sister is engaged to the second baseman

Clue # 3 –  The center fielder is taller than the right fielder

Clue #  4 – Harry and the third baseman live in the same building

Clue # 5 – Paul and Allen each won 20 dollars from the pitcher at pinochle

Clue # 6 – Ed and the outfielders play poker during their free time

Clue # 7 – The pitcher’s wife is the third baseman’s sister

Clue # 8 – The catcher, pitcher, and infield except for Allen, Harry and Andy are shorter than Sam

Clue # 9 – Paul, Andy and the shortstop lost 150 dollars each at the racetrack

Clue # 10 – Paul, Harry, Bill and the catcher lost to the second baseman at pool

Clue # 11 – Sam is undergoing a divorce suit

Clue # 12 – The catcher and the third base each have two children

Clue # 13 – Ed, Paul, Jerry the right fielder and the center fielder are bachelors, the others are married

Clue # 14 – The shortstop, third baseman and Bill each won betting on a fight

Clue # 15 – One of the outfielders is either Mike or Andy

Clue # 16 – Jerry is taller than Bill. Mike is shorter than bill. Each of them is heavier than the third baseman

Who plays each position?

To view the answer, highlight the space below this sentence

Catcher = Allen
Pitcher = Harry
Short Stop = Ed
1st = Paul
2nd = Jerry
3rd = Andy
Left = Sam
Center = Bill
Right = Mike

  • Sam, Bill and Mike are the outfield left to right

    Andy, Harry, Jerry and Paul are the infield third to first

    Pitcher is Ed and the catcher is Allen

  • I see where I made my error. Oh well.

  • Lizzie

    Logic puzzles are a math major’s wet dream. Thanks Joe!

    • @Lizzie – That made me laugh out loud

  • Seymour Butts

    Nailed it!
    It took 30 min and the assumption that the guys who had childern were married. NOT a given these days.
    Thanks Joe, Loved it.

    Who’s on first? Yes
    What? You mean second base?
    I don’t know? Third base!
    When you pay the first baseman at the end of the month, who gets the money? Every dollar of it! And why not? The man’s entitled to it. Who is? Yes. Sometimes his wife picks it up. Who’s wife? Yes, very lovely lady.

  • Buddy

    Darwin Barney mans all the positions because he is a gamer-grinder who hustles and plays the game “the right way.”

  • Lizzie is correct, as usual. Butts is correct too…this must have been written at a time where marriage preceded having children. That, and the pinochle thing.

    Thanks Joe…that was fun.

  • flyslinger2

    I’m confused. 🙂
